Day 25 - 12/09/2024
I arrived at GGVHSS Pettah at 9:15 a.m., just as I do every day. There was an air of calm and excitement as it was the final day of the Onam examinations. The school grounds seemed quieter than usual, with students and staff alike looking forward to the upcoming festivities and break. Upon entering, I made my way to the headmaster's office to sign in, a routine that has become second nature over the course of my time here. The headmaster greeted me warmly, as always, and I felt a sense of familiarity and belonging in the school's environment.
After signing in, I headed to the library, which has become my usual spot to spend the early part of the day. The library is a place of calm amidst the bustle of school life, and I appreciate the quiet moments it offers. With no classes scheduled for the day due to the examinations, I used this time to catch up on reading and reflect on my journey as a B.Ed. student. As I sat by the window, the occasional sound of footsteps or a distant voice reminded me of the rhythm of the school, yet I found solace in the stillness around me.
By the time lunch rolled around at 12:30 p.m., I was ready for a break. I enjoyed my lunch in the staff room, exchanging pleasantries with a few of the teachers who were also taking advantage of the calm day. There was a relaxed atmosphere among the staff, a sense of relief as the examination period came to a close. It was one of those rare moments where we could simply enjoy each other’s company without the rush of classes and responsibilities.
As the afternoon progressed, the weather began to shift, and by 2:00 p.m., a gentle rain started to fall. The sound of raindrops against the windows was soothing, and it added an extra layer of serenity to the day. There were no classes being held, which allowed me to fully appreciate the beauty of the rain. I watched as the playground slowly emptied, the students seeking shelter from the downpour. The sight of rain dancing on the ground brought a peaceful close to the day’s activities, and I found myself feeling content and reflective.
At 3:30 p.m., it was time to sign out. I made my way back to the headmaster's office, where I completed the formalities of the day. There was a shared sense of accomplishment among the staff—another term successfully completed, and the joy of Onam just around the corner. As I left the school, the rain had softened to a drizzle, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of gratitude for the experiences I’ve had here. Though the day had been simple, it was filled with moments of reflection, peace, and a deep appreciation for the profession I am entering.
Leaving the school, I felt a renewed sense of purpose. The calmness of the day and the beauty of the rain had allowed me to reflect not only on my journey as a B.Ed. student but also on the significance of the role of a teacher. The connection between the students, the staff, and the environment of the school reminded me why I chose this path. The day may have been uneventful on the surface, but for me, it was a day of introspection and quiet growth.
